“…Several reports have suggested that hypostatic ulceration and varicose veins are particularly frequent in the 48,XXYY variant of Klinefelter's syndrome (Cam et al 1961, Ellis et al 1961, Barr et al 1964, Peterson et al 1966, Beckman et al 1974, although other workers have not found this to be the case (Borgaonkar et al 1970(Borgaonkar et al , S@rensen et al 1978. Of 20 patients known to us with the 48,XXYY karyotype or a 48, XXYY cell line, three (15 YO) are known to have hypostatic ulceration and seven (35 70) to have varicose veins, proportions not significantly different from those for chromatin-positive men as a whole (P = 0.1).…”

“…Klinefelter's chromosome anomaly-usually XXY-occurs with an incidence of one in 400 males (Rook et al, 1972). The clinical picture includes eunuchoid body proportions, testicular atrophy, sterility, gynaecomastia, reduced growth of beard, decreased body hair and lack of acne vulgaris (Peterson et al, 1966;Eroland, 1969). These men are also taller than the average.…”

“…Thomsen (1966) reported four cases of Klinefelter's syndrome of which two had leg ulcers and one intermittent oedema of the lower legs complicated by purpura of unknown origin. Peterson et al (1966) found five patients with a variant of Khnefcltcr's syndrome (XXYY) and peripheral vascular disease resulting in early onset of stasis dermatitis and in one, stasis ulceration. A possible influence of abnormal metabolism on blood vasculature was discussed.…”
