Cutaneous EBV-related lymphoproliferative disorders

Abstract: This article will focus on the cutaneous lymphoproliferative disorders associated with EBV, with an emphasis on the upcoming changes in the revised 4th Edition of the WHO classification of tumors of the hematopoietic system, many of which deal with cutaneous disorders derived from NK-cells or T-cells. Extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma usually presents in the upper aerodigestive tract, but can involve the skin secondarily. EBV-associated T- and NK-cell lymphoproliferative disorders (LPD) in the pediatric age group … Show more

“…CD30 is occasionally positive, and some patients may be CD4+ or CD4‐/CD8‐. CD5, CD7, CD43, and CD25 expression is often variable . Positivity of CD30 and CD56 are more frequently seen in biopsies with an NK‐cell phenotype, which tends to involve the subcutaneous tissue.…”

“…CD5, CD7, CD43, and CD25 expression is often variable. 19 Positivity of CD30 and CD56 are more frequently seen in biopsies with an NK-cell phenotype, which tends to involve the subcutaneous tissue. In this phenotype, the neoplastic cells surround individual fat cells and may appear like subcutaneous panniculitis T-cell lymphoma histologically.…”

“…The most reliable marker in those patients is the identification of EBV. 97 The EBV blood levels by polymerase chain reaction correlate strongly with the patient's outcome. Treatment for them is based on the combination of radiation and systemic chemotherapy (SMILE) regimen.…”

“…A papular and vesicular eruption with scarring, with associated photosensitivity, in children of South America, Central America, and Mexico, in association with EBV infection, is the more classic clinical picture of HV-LPD. 46,[97][98][99][100] The clinical papular presentation is also typical of marginal zone lymphomas. As opposed to PCFCL, which presents in the head and neck area, CMZL is more frequent in the extremities and lower trunk.…”
