Cutaneous epithelioid hemangioendothelioma presented as an ulcerated areolar mass

Abstract: Differential diagnosis of traumatic neuroma in a histopathological aspect includes palisaded encapsulated neuroma (PEN), schwannoma and neurofibroma. It is difficult to differentiate from PEN, but traumatic neuroma has more haphazardly arranged nerve fascicles and is embedded in a fibrous stroma other than PEN.2 Currently, laser surgery is frequently used to treat variable skin diseases including warts. A relatively high recurrence rate of warts has been reported after laser therapy. 4 We hypothesized that the… Show more

“…Clinical diagnosis is difficult in EHE as the only symptom is progressively enlarging, cutaneous, tender, solitary skin colored mass next to a vessel course 6 . However the cutaneous manifestation may be variable such as solitary, multiple, eruptive, and ulcerative skin lesions 7,8,9,10 . The differential diagnosis for EHE include hemangioma, pyogenic granuloma, angiomyoma, epithelioid sarcoma, hemangioendothelioma and epithelioid angiosarcoma.…”

“…EHE can affect all vascularized tissues in any site, but most frequently involves superficial or deep soft tissues, bones [ 31 , 32 ] and visceral organs, in particular the liver [ 33 ] and lungs [ 34 , 35 ]. Cases of EHE have been described in almost all sites such as the skin [ 36 , 37 ], central nervous system [ 38 - 40 ], meninges [ 41 ], lips [ 42 ], gingiva [ 43 , 44 ], middle ear [ 45 ], thyroid gland [ 46 ], salivary glands [ 47 ], paranasal sinuses [ 48 , 49 ], breast [ 50 ], pleura [ 51 - 53 ], lymph nodes [ 54 ], mediastinum [ 55 , 56 ], heart [ 57 - 61 ], retroperitoneum [ 62 ], ileum [ 63 - 65 ], peritoneum [ 66 ], testis [ 67 ], bladder [ 68 , 69 ], penis [ 70 ], vulva [ 71 ], and so on. In 10% of cases the disease is multifocal [ 72 ].…”
