Cyclic Response of Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete Slender Beams: An Experimental Study

Abstract: Reinforced concrete (RC) beams under cyclic loading usually suffer from reduced aggregate interlock and eventually weakened concrete compression zone due to severe cracking and the brittle nature of compressive failure. On the other hand, the addition of steel fibers can reduce and delay cracking and increase the flexural/shear capacity and the ductility of RC beams. The influence of steel fibers on the response of RC beams with conventional steel reinforcements subjected to reversal loading by a four-point be… Show more

“…There should be potential partial replacement of common steel stirrups with fibers, especially in cases where design criteria recommend a high transverse steel ratio that leads to short stirrup spacing. The shear strength and the fire resistivity of concrete elements with dense steel reinforcement would be very useful at certain burning temperatures [5][6][7].…”

“…Furthermore, as demonstrated by previous experimental investigations [14][15][16], the addition of steel fibres could improve the energy dissipation of cracked concrete and effectively suppress the tendency of crushing, spalling, and shear failure of concrete. Steel fibre-reinforced concrete has been applied in multiple infrastructure projects such as vehicular and metro tunnel linings for improved resilience [17][18][19].…”
