Cyclical patterns in aggregate economic activity of Slovene economy

Abstract: This paper studies cyclic patterns in the Slovene economy with spectral analysis. It examines if the transition in Slovenia was marked by a statistically significant movement of aggregate economic activity, which corresponds to the definition of business cycle proposed by Mitchell and Burns (1946). It finds that in the period 1992–2000 a statistically significant cyclic component is present. The cyclic component oscillates with the frequency of 33.3 months. The results obtained in this paper suggest, that in t… Show more

“…We studied the above conceptual model with the data gathered among Slovenian companies. Slovenia is a small European country finishing economy transition (Strašek and Jagrič, 2002) with 2 million inhabitants situated among Italy, Austria, Hungary, and Croatia. It has joined the EU in 2004.…”

“…So far, business cycle properties for European post-transition countries have been analysed using spectral analysis and multivariate wavelet analysis (Jagrič, 2002;Strašek & Jagrič, 2002;Jagrič, 2003), but these authors do not engage in constructing a monthly CCI. On the other hand, Wozniak (2011) and Lohmus and Demekas (1998) do construct a CCI for Poland and Estonia but they do so by applying unobserved component method and ordinary least squares (OLS) regression respectively.…”
