Cyclodextrin-based superparamagnetic host vesicles as ultrasensitive nanobiocarriers for electrosensing

Abstract: Magnetic cyclodextrin vesicles (mCDVs) have been used as novel electrochemical biorecognition probes for the picomolar determination of thyroxine (T4), using a magneto nanocomposite carbon-paste electrode (mNC-CPE) as a transducer platform.

“…Amphiphilic CDs are highly remarkable cyclic oligosaccharides grafted with aliphatic chains to obtain spontaneous self-assembling into (quasi)spherical nanometric particles in aqueous environment, suitable for the preparation of colloidal drug delivery systems [18,[47][48][49][50][51][52]. Due to their various advantages such as spontaneous nanoparticle formation without any surfactants, increased loading efficiency and increased interaction with biological membranes, amphiphilic CD nanoparticles have been the interest of several research groups [18].…”

“…Due to their various advantages such as spontaneous nanoparticle formation without any surfactants, increased loading efficiency and increased interaction with biological membranes, amphiphilic CD nanoparticles have been the interest of several research groups [18]. Amphiphilic CDs, obtained by taking advantage of facialselective chemical functionalization schemes to install aliphatic chains at either the primary or secondary rims of native CDs, have been used in the literature to prepare self-assembling nanocarrier system for a wide variety of APIs [18,[47][48][49][50][51][52].…”

“…Current applications focus on site-specific drug/gene delivery and protein separation and analysis. Considering the avant-garde developments in CD chemistry, glycobiology and nanotechnology, a much broader range of progress is expected in the near future from their synergistic blend, including fields as diverse as catalysis [199,200], bioremediation [201], sensing [202][203][204][205], diagnostics [206,207], theranostics [208,209], vaccines [210,211] or personalized medicine [212,213]. Structures and schematic representation of the strategy developed by Riela, Lazzala and coworkers to assemble hybrid glycoCD/halloysite nanotubes to achieve functional glyconanomaterials for the co-administration of curcumin (Cur) and silibinin (Sil) in thyroid cancer cells [196,197].…”

“…41 Recently, the electrosensing of bio-target by CD vesicles hosting MNP (e.g superparamagnetic nanoparticles, SPION) has been reported. 42 CD-modified MNP are less explored in AD research and only rare reports deal with the interaction of CD/MNP hybrids with A peptides. 43 In the framework of this ongoing research, recently various inorganic/organic hybrid platform based on CD were explored in our groups for biomedical purposes.…”
