Cycloheximide resistance in the Lipomycetaceae revisited

Abstract: Cycloheximide (CYH) is a heterocyclic, glutarimide antibiotic that is a potent inhibitor of protein biosynthesis in most eukaryotes. This study demonstrated that yeasts from all species of the Lipomycetaceae, with the exception of Dipodascopsis spp., can grow in the presence of up to 5 g.L(-1) CYH -- a concentration that is five times higher than the accepted "highest" concentration of 1 g.L(-1) used in physiological tests for yeast identification.
