Cysteine-Induced Hybridization of 2D Molybdenum Disulfide Films for Efficient and Stable Hydrogen Evolution Reaction

Abstract: The noble, metal-free materials capable of efficiently catalyzing water splitting reactions currently hold a great deal of promise. In this study, we reported the structure and electrochemical performance of new MoS2-based material synthesized with L-cysteine. For this, a facile one-pot hydrothermal process was developed and an array of densely packed nanoplatelet-shaped hybrid species directly on a conductive substrate were obtained. The crucial role of L-cysteine was determined by numerous methods on the str… Show more

“…The Mo 3d spectra of LCs were fitted with four 3d 3/2 –3d 5/2 spin-orbit doublets ( Figure 4 c and Figure S1c ). The Mo 3d 5/2 peaks located at ~228.3, 229.1, 222.3 and 230.4 eV are identified as 1T-MoS 2 modification (octahedral Mo polyhedron), 2H-MoS 2 (trigonal prismatic polyhedron), and impurity MoS x O y and MoO z states that is in accordance with previous studies [ 4 , 5 , 32 ]. The S 2p spectra fitted with four S 2p 3/2 –S 2p 1/2 doublets are shown in Figure 4 d and Figure S1d along with indication of the assigned components.…”

“…Molybdenum disulfide is a famous 2D van der Waals solid, which is considered as one of the most promising post-graphene materials owing to its outstanding properties. These properties are highly demanded for various applications such as advanced field effect transistors [ 1 , 2 ], electrocatalysts [ 3 , 4 , 5 ], biosensors [ 6 ] and energy storage materials [ 7 , 8 ]. Yet another application of MoS 2 has attracted tremendous attention during the last few years, which is based on its excellent photothermal activity.…”
