“…Regarding chromosome characters, their optimization on the current phylogenetic hypothesis of Physalaemus performed by Lourenço et al (2015) suggests a series of apomorphies supporting some clades. A biarmed chromosome Pair 11 is shared by all species analyzed of the P. cuvieri clade (except for P. fernandezae , Tomatis et al 2009), while in the P. signifer clade, this pair is telocentric (Lourenço et al 2015; Ferro et al 2022, and cites therein). In addition, the presence of a c-positive band on Pair 5 was proposed as a synapomorphy of the P. cuvieri group (Vittorazzi et al 2014; Lourenço et al 2015), a condition also exhibited by P. albifrons , P. albonotatus , P. cuqui , and P. centralis (Vittorazzi et al 2014), several lineages of P. cuvieri (Silva et al 1999; Quinderé et al 2009), P. ephippifer (Nascimento et al 2010), P. kroyeri (Vittorazzi et al 2016), and the new species described in this work.…”
