“…Its primary purpose was to evaluate the performance of a commercially available multiplexed immune panel in the analysis of cervical secretions. Because this study was not specifically powered to make comparisons by HPV and CIN status, although its size is comparable to the majority of studies that have measured immune markers in cervical secretions, 1216 true differences may have been missed. Given the number of immune marker and CIN/HPV comparisons, some results may have been due to chance.…”

“…Previous studies of cytokines in the context of HPV infection or cervical precancer or cancer typically have assessed only a few cytokines. 1216 New developments now make it feasible to measure many immune-related markers simultaneously in a high-throughput, multiplex format using small volumes of specimen. Measuring proteins that are secreted from immune cells like cytokines, chemokines, and soluble receptors, which affect cell-mediated immune response and can be altered in the presence of infection, 1719 may help detect early changes in the immune response that predict whether an HPV infection will progress to cervical cancer.…”

“…(47) Other studies have shown that plasma IL-2 levels can differ depending on cervical HPV positivity and/or disease stage, although results have varied. (13) Our finding that IL-2 is related to decreased clearance in men may have been affected by its lower detectability, and may not represent true sex differences in IL-2. Therefore, the association of IL-2 with oral HPV clearance observed in this study warrants confirmation from other studies.…”

“…(7, 8) Attempts to characterize these responses have found that women with persistent cervical HPV have distinct systemic and/or local cytokine profiles as compared to women who clear HPV or women without HPV infection. (9-13) In particular, higher circulating or local levels of interleukin (IL)-6, IL-8 and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) have been associated with reduced cervical HPV clearance,(9-11) suggesting that cytokines secreted may be predictive of disease progression and outcome, although results have been mixed. (14, 15) The relationships between cytokines and oral HPV infection, and any differences by biologic sex, have not been described.…”

“…Entretanto, grande parte das infecções por HPV são eliminadas com sucesso pelo sistema imune, principalmente através da resposta imune adaptativa celular. Os tipos HPV16 e HPV18 persistem por mais tempo que os demais tipos de alto risco, o que explica, em parte, a discrepante prevalência destes tipos em carcinomas (Koshiol & Kovacic, 2012).…”
