“…Studies assessing folate and other vitamins levels in plasma did not find a protective effect either: even though there were great differences in folate levels among populations exposed to air-pollution, no protective effect from oxidative DNA damage such as M1dG and 8-oxodG adducts was found by Singh et al [2007]. A study with lead-exposed workers, reported higher MN frequencies in the subgroup showing higher-than-the-mean serum folate levels [Minozzo et al, 2010]; these workers were assumed to consume folate-enriched wheat and maize flour in food. According to these results, whether folic acid supplementation is enough to protect against environmental pollutant-induced DNA-damage needs to be further explored.…”
