Cytotoxic Activities of Extracts and Isolated Compounds of Some Potential Sumatran Medicinal Plants against MCF-7 and HSC-3 Cell Lines

Abstract: In continuation of our study of Sumatran plants and the bioactivity of their constituents, Stereocaulon halei Lamb (Stereocaulaceae) was extracted and isolated to obtain atranorin (1), lobaric acid (6), and methyl-β-orcinol carboxylate (9). We also prepared methanolic extracts of some Sumatran medicinal plants, i.e. Alpinia denticulata, Alpinia malaccensis, Alpinia submutica, Curcuma zedoaria, Centella asiatia, Mangifera indica, Piper crocatum, Mussaenda frondosa, together with previously isolated compounds, i… Show more

“…In line with ongoing research on Sumatran medicinal plants and the search for alternative medicines [18][19][20], corn cobs are reported to have the potential for anti-tyrosinase and antiaging (through inhibition of elastase and hyaluronidase enzymes). The evaluation method is based on in vitro inhibiting enzyme action (tyrosinase, elastase, and hyaluronidase).…”

“…Breast cancer rates are known to grow faster in Asia than in the West. It was reported by WHO that nearly 1.38 million cases of breast cancer were diagnosed in 2008 [1] , with a prevalence rate of 23% of all cancer cases in the world. In addition, it is known that 209,000 new cases were found, especially in Southeast Asia [2] .…”
