Cytotoxic Cytochalasins from Marine-Derived Fungus Arthrinium arundinis

Abstract: Four new cytochalasins, arthriniumnins A-D (1-4), a new natural product, ketocytochalasin (5), as well as five known cytochalasin analogues (6-10) were isolated and identified from the fungus Arthrinium arundinis ZSDS1-F3 from the sponge Phakellia fusca. Their structures were elucidated by NMR spectroscopic and mass spectrometric analyses, as well as single crystal X-ray diffraction. Compounds 6 and 9 showed cytotoxicity against K562, A549, Huh-7, H1975, MCF-7, U937, BGC823, HL60, Hela, and MOLT-4 cell lines, … Show more

“…Among the isolated fungal metabolites, compounds 2 , 3 and 7 showed cytotoxic activity with IC 50 ranges of 50.6–193.3 µM, but all compounds ( 1 – 7 ) did not inhibit caspase-3 activity. New bioactive secondary metabolites with diverse chemical skeletons have recently been isolated from marine fungi [ 30 , 31 , 32 ]. The present work underscores that marine fungi are important sources of bioactive natural products.…”

“…Studies of fungi continue to be on the rise with 371 172 Citromycetin analogue 184 was obtained from an Ascomyta sp., 174 while as usual, the genus Aspergillus has been well studied. Of particular note was a continuing study into the biosynthesis of the prenylated indole alkaloids notoamides, 175 stephacidins 176 and versicolamide B.…”
