Cytotoxic effects ofCuscutaextract on human cancer cell lines

Abstract: Cancer is a growing health problem around the world. Although there are different therapeutic methods for cancer such as lymphoma and melanoma cancers, none of them have possessed complete efficacy up to now. Therefore, discovery of novel anti-cancer drugs is important. In this study, the cytotoxic effect of Cuscuta extract, a traditional Iranian medicinal herb, on melanoma cell line (SK-MEL-3) and human Burkitt lymphoma (Raji) is evaluated. MTT assay was performed for cytotoxic effect of Cuscuta extract. The … Show more

“…Thus, the results demonstrated that the inhibition of HepG2 cell proliferation induced by PC was stronger than that induced by EA. This was similar to another study, Raji lymphoma cell line was inhibited by Cuscuta extracts (Aribi, Zerizer, Kabouche, Screpanti, & Palermo, 2016;Ghazanfari, Naseri, Shams, & Rahmati, 2013), it suggested that many natural plant extracts could inhibit cancer cells proliferating without affecting normal cells.…”

“…Necrotic cell death comprises a continuum of effects, culminating in nuclear pyknosis, karyorrhexis, and karyolysis (Loannou & Chen, 1996). mg/mL, 2.56 mg/mL and 2.06 mg/mL respectively (Ghazanfari et al, 2013). Methanol fraction from Rubus idaeus also showed in vitro cytotoxic activity on two human leukaemia cell lines, J45 and HL60.…”

“…Previous studies have shown that some aftimun species have anti-cancer properties [57]. Studies evaluating the effects of aftimun (Cuscuta kotschyana and Cuscuta chinensis) in different cell lines including HL60, MCF7, T47D, CCRF-CEM and Jurkat (JM), show the cytotoxic properties of this plant species, although the evidence available is scarce [36,60].…”
