“…Ertz et al (2005) and Hafellner & Mayrhofer (2007) briefly discuss biogeographical elements in New Zealand's lichenicolous fungal mycobiota, which includes bipolar, endemic, cosmopolitan, autralasian, austral, and pantropical distribution patterns. Lorimer et al (1996), Walker & Lintott (1997), and Perry et al (1999).…”

“…In the light of these results, water has proved to be a natural solvent that can be used in the prevention of dermatosis, although, with the exception of both the above-mentioned research groups, lichen compounds extracted by water to inhibit dermatophytes has yet to be confirmed. Among the secondary lichen metabolites, the highest fungicidal activity was demonstrated by a chloroform solution of 2-hydroxy-4-methoxy-3,6-dimethylbenzoic Lorimer et al 1996;Perry et al 1999), as well as Usnea (Lorimer et al 1996;Perry et al 1999;Schmeda-Hirschmann et al 2008). The high activity of compounds extracted by methanol from P. glauca (36 mm IZ) against T. rubrum ) has been detected, in addition to those extracted by ethanol and n-hexane from R. farinacea (Esimone and Adikwu 1999) and by methanol from R. polymorpha ) and X. pulla .…”

“…‡Fungicidal action. ethanol-extracted compounds from numerous lichen species (see Table 6; Lorimer et al 1996;Perry et al 1999). Extracts from many other species, mostly macrolichens, were found to be inactive against this dermatophyte (Perry et al 1999;Aslan et al 2006;Gulluce et al 2006;Yucel et al 2007).…”

“…Disease incidence was measured relative to untreated control plants at 24-h post inoculation and, in some tests, at 96 h ( Table 3). The C. albicans assay has been described previously (12).…”
