Czochralski growth of Lu1‐xScxBO3:Ce solid solution crystals

Abstract: Single crystals of Lu 1-x Sc x BO 3 :Ce (x=0.2, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7) were grown by Czochralski method. Continuous solid solution with calcite structure and a linear compositional dependency of crystal lattice parameter in the system Lu 1-x Sc x BO 3 :Ce are formed and their symmetry belong to hexagonal system with R3c space group checked by X-ray powder diffraction. The electron probe micro-analysis measurements show that the main inclusions in Lu 1-x Sc x BO 3 :Ce crystals are in the form of Sc rich oxide and Ce ri… Show more

“…The concentration of Pr ions in the Lu 0.8 Sc 0.2 BO 3 crystal is 0.052 at%, measured by the ICP-AES. Therefore, the segregation coefficient of Pr ions is round 0.1, smaller than the value of Ce 3+ in the same host [17]. The X-ray diffraction pattern of Lu 0.8 Sc 0.2 BO 3 :0.5 at%Pr 3+ is represented in Fig.…”

“…In our earlier work [16], the influence of Sc/Lu ratio on phase transformation and luminescence properties of Lu 1−x Sc x BO 3 :Ce solid solutions have been investigated. Moreover, the Czochalski-grown Lu 0.8 Sc 0.2 BO 3 :Ce 3+ crystal was found to be a promising material for scintillation application [17,18].…”

“…In our earlier work [23], we reported the influence of Sc/Lu ratio on phase transformation and luminescence properties of Lu 1−x Sc x BO 3 :Ce solid solutions. Moreover, the Lu 0.8 Sc 0.2 BO 3 :Ce crystal material has been obtained by Czochalski method and found to be a potential material for scintillation application [24]. Hence, in this work, we continue to explore the possibility of Eu 3+ or Tb 3+ -doped materials to be efficient scintillators.…”

“…In our previous work, the influence of Sc/Lu ratio on phase transformation and luminescence properties of Lu 1 À x Sc x-BO 3 :Ce solid solutions were investigated [14]. Resulting Czochalski-grown Ce-doped lutetium scandium orthoborate single crystals appeared promising scintillators [15][16][17].…”
