D-limonene exhibits antitumor activity by inducing autophagy and apoptosis in lung cancer

Abstract: Purposed-limonene is a plant extract with widespread application, and it has been recently reported to have antiproliferative and proapoptotic effects on cancer cells. However, the mechanisms by which d-limonene achieves these effects, especially in lung cancer, are not entirely clear. Therefore, the goal of this study was to examine the effects of d-limonene on lung cancer and explore its mechanisms of action.MethodsWe examined the therapeutic effects of d-limonene on lung cancer cells and in a xenograft anim… Show more

“…Furthermore, its pharmaceutical activities do not confine in the mentioned components. There are several bioactive factors in Carum Carvi essential oil such as trans ‐dihydrocarvone, α‐pinene, trans ‐carveole, perillaldehyde, trans ‐β‐caryophyllene, and sabinene, which are known to have anticancer activities (Arak & Orav, , Ding & Chen, ; Pejin et al, ; Yu et al., ). In the current study, nanoemulsions of Carum Carvi essential oil were prepared to evaluate their cytotoxic and apoptotic activity of them in human HT‐29 colon cancer cells.…”

“…[5][6][7][8][9] Fiber-shaped Yarn supercapacitors (YSCs) that have the merits of tiny volume, high flexibility and wearability are attractive as power sources for miniaturized electronic devices, such as micro-robots, wearable electronic textiles and implantable medical devices. [5,[15][16][17][18] These fibers have advantages of good flexibility, high specific surface area and high conductivity. “…Limonene has been shown to strongly stimulate autophagy and to prevent tumor growth in vivo as well as in vitro [114]. The treatment of limonene accelerates LC3 lipidation, which is accomplished by targeting autophagosome formation and induction of basal autophagy via activating ERK and by not inhibiting the mTOR kinase [115].…”
