Abstract: Background Primary human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) infection can be especially serious in pregnant women and cause severe consequences for newborns. We aimed to determine which metabolites, among the thousands in human sera, are strongly correlated with serious outcomes for pregnant women with HCMV.
