Damage Identification of Structures Based on Smooth Orthogonal Decomposition and Improved Beetle Antennae Search Algorithm

Abstract: A novel damage identification method that utilizes the smooth orthogonal decomposition (SOD) combined with the improved beetle antennae search algorithm (BAS) presented by previous scholars is proposed. Firstly, the damage index which can track the curvature changing of mode shape identified by the SOD method is generated by an adaptive polynomial fit method. The locations of structure damages are determined according to the damage index. Thus, the number of possible damaged elements needed to be taken into ac… Show more

“…As there is a famous proverb, all new ideas are combinations of old ones; it is possible to develop novel algorithms from old ones. In this regard, a new version of BAS has been improved by the fusion procedure of the SA algorithm [122].…”

“…According to the experimental data of damaged and undamaged beams, Khatir et al [19] formed an objective function with the changes of natural frequencies and proposed a damage detection method based on the particle swarm optimization algorithm, and their method can also quantify damage. Hu and Zhang [20] calculated the stiffness reduction of the damage beam using the improved beetle antennae search algorithm and constructed a damage index that can track the curvature changes of modes.…”

“…The algorithm not only has a strong ability of individual identification and the environment identification, but also does not need to know the function gradient information. In addition, its program code is simple and can quickly obtain the optimal solution under the condition of a stable convergence [20][21][22][23]. At present, it has been successfully applied to a variety of industrial engineering optimization problems, and has a high potential research value [24][25][26][27][28][29].…”
