Damping of low‐frequency oscillations using an SVC‐based supplementary controller

Abstract: In this paper, the optimal tunning problem of parameters of a conventional lead-lag controller (LLC) and a fuzzy logic controller (FLC) based on the static Var compensator (SVC) is considered. The solution is obtained using an improved particle swarm optimization (IPSO) algorithm. The membership functions and scaling factors of the FLC and LLC parameters are optimized using the above-mentioned technique. The proposed controllers are settled down to an SVC that is installed at the middle of a transmission line … Show more

“…To calculate the size of installed SVC at bus 64, for a level of load, the PSO algorithm (Hasanvand et al, 2013) is utilized to minimize the introduced objective function in Farsangi et al (2007). The optimal size of SVC is calculated to be 48.74 Mvar.…”

“…In recent years, with the rapid development of computer technology, the application of fuzzy set theory to the area of automatic control has achieved rapid development. When it is difficult to acquire precise mathematical model for time-varying and nonlinear complex power system, the intelligent fuzzy control can achieve effective control (Abazari et al, 2018; Abolmasoumi and Moradi, 2018; Arya, 2018; Chakrabarti et al, 2017; Ghafouri et al, 2018; Haroun and Li, 2017; Hasanvand et al, 2013; Shokouhandeh and Jazaeri, 2018; Sabahi et al, 2017; Soliman and El Metwally Khaled, 2017). Hasanvand et al (2013) have investigated the optimal design of fuzzy logic controller (OFLC) and lead–lag controller (OLLC) based on the static Var compensator (SVC) in order to enhance power system transient stability.…”
