DarkSide-50 532-day dark matter search with low-radioactivity argon

Abstract: The DarkSide-50 direct-detection dark matter experiment is a dual-phase argon time projection chamber operating at Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso. This paper reports on the blind analysis of a (16 660 ± 270) kg d exposure using a target of low-radioactivity argon extracted from underground sources. We find no events in the dark matter selection box and set a 90 % C.L. upper limit on the dark matter-nucleon spin-independent cross section of 1.14 × 10 −44 cm 2 (3.78 × 10 −44 cm 2 , 3.43 × 10 −43 cm 2 ) for … Show more

“…The limits at 90% CL from the PICO-60 experiment [40] in the case of spin-dependent scattering and from the XENON1T experiment [41] in the case of spin-independent scattering are also shown. Our limits are consistent with those obtained from DM direct search experiments in the same mass range [40][41][42][43]. However, we note that XENON1T and PICO-60 operate with target materials and under astrophysical time-scales different from what is used for the DM capture in the Sun.…”

“…For particle Dark Matter direct detection experiments, the main building block is cryogenic material single-phase time projection chamber (TPC), dual-phase TPC, and bubble chambers. Among the leading direct detection experiments, TPC is used in DarkSide-50 [1], LUX [2], PandaX-II [3] and XENON1T [4]. In this work, we focus on the output of TPC as a part of the XENON1T experiment.…”

“…We compare the effective coupling c p to the most stringent bounds on spin-independent dark matter-nucleon scattering: xenon 1t [83] and DarkSide 50 [84]. The results are presented in Fig.…”
