DASH work module in workers with hand-arm vibration syndrome

Abstract: Workers with HAVS reported significant upper extremity work-related disability as measured by the DASH-W questionnaire, and the upper extremity pain score made the largest contribution to the DASH-W scores in these subjects.

“…The strong correlation observed between the 1-year recall modified QuickDASH and DASH-W (r=0.76) is consistent with the findings of Fan et al, comparing the standard QuickDASH and DASH Work module (r=0.63) in active workers with UE symptoms and clinical cases for UE MSD [19] and those of House et al comparing the full DASH and DASH-W in workers with hand-arm vibration syndrome (r=0.64) [22]. In another study that compared the full Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire (BCTQ), from which the FSS is taken, stronger correlations were observed between the BCTQ and the full DASH, than with measures of overall health such as the SF-36, from which the SF-8 was developed [25].…”

“…This is recognized by several authors as a number of studies published over the last decade describe symptoms and clinical outcome related to disability [15-19]. It is apparent that many HAVS patients experience considerable disability both at work and in their spare time [20,21]. One instrument used in these studies is the self-administered: The disabilities of the arm, shoulder and hand questionnaire (DASH).…”

“…The DASH-score averages observed in our population were overall lower than those observed in other populations of workers suffering from MSDs. 8,[23][24][25] This can be explained by the fact that our population was recruited through occupational medicine and mainly consisted of still working people at baseline. Conversely, the DASH and DASH-work scores observed in our population were overall higher than in general populations of workers (not specifically diagnosed with a MSD).…”
