Data Curation for Preclinical and Clinical Multimodal Imaging Studies

Abstract: In biomedical research, imaging modalities help discover pathological mechanisms to develop and evaluate novel diagnostic and theranostic approaches. However, while standards for data storage in the clinical medical imaging field exist, data curation standards for biomedical research are yet to be established. This work aimed at developing a free secure file format for multimodal imaging studies, supporting common in vivo imaging modalities up to five dimensions as a step towards establishing data curation sta… Show more

“…Any series of such transformations can be described as a single transformation consisting of a rotation followed by a translation. The formula used by the software to move from the data coordinate to the metric target coordinate is shown in Figure 1C, where R is an orthonormal rotation matrix, d and v are voxel indices and sizes, and t is a 3 x 1 translation vector 12 . The rotation is detailed in Figure 1D.…”

“…Although small datasets may suffice for the training of AI algorithms, large, well-curated datasets with associated annotations are deemed necessary for AI algorithms in the clinical setting [109]. To this direction the preparation and organization of data from various sources through their lifecycle, rendering them available for processing for research and/ or educational purposes is fundamental and is called data curation [110]. Data curation includes several steps like Ethical Approval, Deidentification, appropriate labeling and pre-processing, as well as specific dataset types.…”
