Data presentation on the map in Google Charts and jQuery JavaScript technologies

Abstract: The article presents selected software development tools and technologies that enable the presentation of statistical data on digital maps in the browser. The aim of the study was to describe them, and to conduct their comparative evaluation. In our studies, we have used ad-hoc tests, performed on the basis of usability and functionality, using the technique of self-evaluation. Based on the criteria of global popularity and availability, the following were subjected to ad-hoc tests: Google Visualization-Geomap… Show more

“…Ad-hoc tests are helpful when planning other types of tests, including formal tests, i.e. such that are carried out in laboratory conditions [Król 2016]. The measurement was performed using three applications that automate tests: (1) Cloudinary Website Speed Test Image Analysis Tool, (2) GTmetrix, and (3) Dareboost.…”

“…The use of an efficient hosting server and high-speed Internet connection may be insufficient to guarantee satisfactory performance of the application if the latter has been developed in a faulty way, using inefficient solutions, such as an excessive number of components, especially those downloaded from external sources [Król 2016]. In addition, the slow loading of websites and web applications is often caused by the use of overly large graphic files [Nielsen 2010].…”

“…Moreover, they usually allow us to create visualizations in a limited way, narrowed only to the creator's possibilities provided by its author. Greater working freedom is provided by API programmatic interfaces (programmatic techniques); i.e., Google Charts Visualization API, by means of which data visualization on a map [24,25] or complex managerial dashboard can be created [15]. The Fusion Tables API programmatic interface, which allows us to create advanced data presentations both in the form of charts and diagrams as well as in spatial reference, is equally popular.…”
