Data sets on delineation of groundwater potential zones identified by geospatial tool in Gudur area, Nellore district, Andhra Pradesh, India

Abstract: The data deals with the preparation of the groundwater potential zone map of gudur area, with the help of data like geology and geomorphology, structure/lineament, slope and drainage and the thematic layer were prepared through the Survey of India toposheet Nos. N/12,N/15,N/16 and IRS-P6 LISS-III(RESOURCESAT-2) satellite data. The groundwater potential zones were obtained and classified into four categories, viz., very poor, poor, good, and very good zones. The data explains lateritic plain moderate basement w… Show more

“…Many spatial problems give rise to GIS-based multi-criteria decision analysis [9]. With the introduction of remote sensing and Geographical Information System (GIS) techniques, an easy procedure to estimate the spatial distribution of groundwater sources from very high to low levels became possible [10]- [18]. A GIS framework was developed and analyzed by Das et al [19] for the investigation of potential groundwater resources.…”

“…The combination of these two technologies has shown to be a useful tool for determining groundwater potential. Groundwater flow and occurrence are governed by various parameters, including rock type and structural attributes, topography, land use/land cover, landform pattern, drainage network and weather conditions (Jaiswal et al 2003, Ali et al 2015, Yeh et al 2016, Thapa et al 2017, Golla et al 2018. For assessing the Groundwater Potential Zones (GWPZs) in Tripura, eight thematic maps were evaluated in the current study.…”

“…Lineaments are created by tectonic activity, and it reveals information related to underlying structural features through surface topographic conditions [61]. Lineament density plays a key role in controlling the infiltration of surface water into the aquifer and thus leads to a direct relationship exists between lineament density and groundwater-potential zones [3,62]. The weightage assigned to lineament density is based on the lineament's proximity.…”
