Dataset of search queries to map scientific publications to the UN sustainable development goals

Abstract: The dataset includes search queries that can be used to identify scientific publications related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We propose a new approach to mitigate the polysemy of terms as much as possible by targeting the most relevant subject areas for each SDG. In addition, we also used a text-mining tool to identify as many relevant phrases as possible. Publications identified through this process cannot be considered as evidence of the commitment of authors and their institu… Show more

“…The point is that, on the one hand, the search query should return a small number of records that are irrelevant to the entire downloaded corpus (the authors dealt with such cases by manually verifying each of the downloaded records), but on the other hand, that the query should not omit records relevant to the subject matter. There are many considerations on that issue in the literature, from quite sophisticated approaches [28] applied to the cases where the subject matter definition is complex, to the As can be seen above, the search query is quite broad-the database is searched for works containing the stem of the word 'sustainability' in the title, abstract, or keywords, and at the same time, in the title, the word 'lis' or the stem of the 'library' or 'information science' words. The search result is also limited to publication types that are articles or conference papers, book chapters, and books.…”

There are many considerations on that issue in the literature, from quite sophisticated approaches [28] applied to the cases where the subject matter definition is complex, to the straightforward ones [29] in cases of subject matters with relatively crisp boundaries. The authors decided to follow the latter approach, as a sustainability subject is very recognizable in the area of scientific interest.…”

“…Consequently, due to these interrelationships complexity, it is valuable for researchers to assess the status of the SDG research, for instance by mapping the existing knowledge or creating new knowledge to contribute to achieve the goals defined by the United Nations and also allow the overcoming of previous partial approaches to sustainable development (Belmonte-Ureña et al 2021 ; Bordignon 2021 ).…”

“…No reviews articles related to marine water (SDG 14) were found (with a minimum number of 6 occurrences). Some authors (Bordignon 2021 ) also include freshwater in SDG 14, as being “life below water.” However, in the official document, the 2030 agenda only includes marine life (United Nations 2015 ). Many authors disagree with this distribution, which also causes some disagreements in the classification of SDG 6 on 5Ps, as people or planet.…”
