“…Few studies have looked at attachment-related differences in actual use of dating apps, but researchers have found that online dating was not associated with dating anxiety (Peter & Valkenburg, 2007; Stevens & Morris, 2007), which is similar to the fear of rejection that more anxious people experience. More anxious people are more likely to report that they would use dating apps, which might reflect their desire to increase methods of communicating with potential partners; however, their fear of rejection might push them away from actually using dating apps (Hope & Heimberg, 1990).…”

“…Perhaps just as interesting is the fact that despite the serious nature of this problem, the minimal research that has been conducted has been inconsistent and generally confined to the study of college‐aged, heterosexual, unmarried, American men. Although most consider dating anxiety to be subsumed by the broader category of “social anxiety,” others have argued that dating anxiety merits attention in its own right (Calvert, Moore, & Jensen, 1987; Glickman & La Greca, 2004; Heimberg, 1977; Hope & Heimberg, 1990). Even though dating anxiety has been identified as a significant problem among college students and adults (Arkowitz, Hinton, Perl, & Himadi, 1978; Bryant & Trower, 1974; Davies & Windle, 2000; Dodge, Heimberg, Nyman, & O’Brien, 1987), the scarcity of data on the topic serves to show that this is an understudied, almost forgotten area of research within anxiety disorders.…”

“…XEA is an extreme, disproportional anxiety and it can appear at various stages of the evaluation process (Taut & Brauns, 2003). As opposed to “normal” evaluation anxiety (Allpsych online, 2004; American Psychiatric Association, 2000; Hope & Heimberg, 1990; Leitenberg, 1990; Norton, Burns, Hope, & Bauer, 2000), which can be either negative or positive (causing positive stimulation, awareness, and a desire to improve performance), XEA is always negative.…”
