“…Several authors have affirmed that client-centered characteristics display some role in treatment retention [1]. Given the heterogeneity of alcoholics, it is possible that specific types of alcoholics show higher compliance with specific treatment models.…”

“…The goal is to provide quick access and reten-tion in intensive SUDS treatment. This essential practice is based on research findings that adults who enter treatment more quickly and stay longer tend to achieve better outcomes (e.g., Connors, Grant, Crone, & Whiteside-Mansell, 2006;Green, Rockhill, & Furrer, 2006;Hoffman, Ford, Tillotson, Choi, & McCarty, 2011). The CPS report of alleged CAN is considered a crisis and in theory (Borgman, Edmunds, & MacDicken, 1979) represents the best time to intervene with a quick and intense service delivery response.…”

“…The CPS investigative team is responsible for making the START referral and initiating the FTM that begins the SUDS assessment process. The SUDS treatment timeline standards were inspired by the Network for the Improvement of Addiction Treatment (NIATx, 2014) model and measured similar to the study by Hoffman et al (2011). Adherence to these service delivery standards was assessed for the first treatment modality that included intensive outpatient program (35.6%), outpatient substance abuse treatment (30.9%), case management services (10.7%), detoxification (10.2%), residential treatment (6.7%), or substance abuse education (2%) with 3.9% receiving other services such as medication-assisted treatment or mental health counseling.…”

“…Research has shown that longer waiting times are associated with lower rates of entry into treatment [4,5,16,17] and higher [13,18] or no change in retention rates [4]. A recent study in Israel found that longer waiting lists were a predictor of higher 1-year retention rates, yet suggested that this may be due to significant differences in sociodemographic characteristics between the groups.…”

“…Waiting to begin treatment may be a barrier for potential clients as they consider entering treatment [3,12,13,14,15]. Research has shown that longer waiting times are associated with lower rates of entry into treatment [4,5,16,17] and higher [13,18] or no change in retention rates [4].…”
