DCI after Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage Is Related to the Expression of MFG-E8

Abstract: Objective. To explore the predictive value of milk fat globule epidermal growth factor 8 (MFG-E8) in the occurrence of delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI) after an aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH). Methods. We recruited 32 patients with aSAH as the case group and 24 patients with unruptured aneurysms as the control group. Serum MFG-E8 levels were measured by western blot and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. We analyzed the relationship between MFG-E8 levels and the risk of DCI. Results. The levels of se… Show more

“…Lin et al showed that sLOX-1 could effectively serve as a biomarker for DCI after aSAH [29], and Ding et al found that early neuroglobin levels may play a predictive role in the development of DCI [30]. Furthermore, our previous research confirmed that the expression level of patients with MFG-E8 in the serum of patients with aSAH was associated with the development of DCI [31].…”

“… 62 The levels were significantly higher in patients with sepsis, 54 type 2 diabetes mellitus, 63 SLE, 64 , 65 and aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage. 66 In patients with cancer, the serum levels of MFG‐E8 were shown to be higher in patients with TNBC 67 but lower in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma. 68 Although multiple results have been reported as shown above, the meaning and pathophysiology for the regulation of systemic MFG‐E8 levels in these disease conditions have not been fully investigated.…”

“…Delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI) is a serious complication after aSAH and can greatly increase the risk of poor prognosis in such patients. 2 Therefore, DCI prediction is of clinical benefit to aSAH management. During decades, biomarkers have been paid extensive attentions with respect to their aidance in severity assessment and prognostic prediction.…”
