De novo Assembly and Characterization of the Fruit Transcriptome of Idesia polycarpa Reveals Candidate Genes for Lipid Biosynthesis

Abstract: Idesia polycarpa, is a valuable oilseed-producing tree of the Flacourtiaceae family that has the potential to fulfill edible oil production and is also a possible biofuel feedstock. The fruit is unique in that it contains both saturated and unsaturated lipids present in pericarp and seed, respectively. However, triglyceride synthesis and storage in tissues outside of the seeds has been poorly studied in previous researches. To gain insight into the unique properties of I. polycarpa fruit lipid synthesis, bioch… Show more

“…Therefore, we attempted to uncover the key genes and pathways of elm fruit. RNA-Seq has been used to accurately monitor gene expression in hundreds of fruiting plants, such as sweet orange (Citrus sinensis) [44], mango (Mangifera indica) [28], Cucumis melo [45], and Idesia polycarpa [46], to track gene expression trends during fruit development. The synchronous dysregulation of key regulators in pathways verified by RNA-Seq and/or qRT-PCR analyses is valuable for understanding transcriptomic dynamics during elm fruit development.…”

“…RNA-sequencing (RNA-Seq) analysis RNA of HepG2 cells stably expressing wild-type (WT) or P24A mutant HDGF was extracted for RNA-Seq analysis. Data analysis was performed as described previously (Li et al, 2016b). RNA degradation and contamination were monitored on 1% agarose gels.…”

“…Chemicals produced by the family are varied. For example, the early modern medicine aspirin was first isolated from the bark of willows and poplars, while Idesia fruits synthesize an abundant oil containing unsaturated fatty acids (Li et al., ). In addition, poplars are among the keystone components of the temperate and boreal forest communities in the North Hemisphere and are widely cultivated worldwide, accounting for more than half of the planted forests in China used for the paper, pulp, and wood industries (Hamzeh & Dayanandan, ; Stettler, Bradshaw, Heilman, & Hinckley, ).…”
