De Novo Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms in COVID-19 Patients

Abstract: Background and objectiveSince early 2020, the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has turned into a global healthcare concern. The usual clinical presentation of COVID-19 infection includes myalgia, headache associated with pyrexia, and sore throat. Our study aimed to assess the severity of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in COVID-19 patients and determine its correlation with the prognosis of the disease. MethodsWe conducted an observational study in the COVID-19 care unit at a tertiary care teachin… Show more

“…Enrichment analysis in DisGeNET also highlighted delayed myelination, which is commonly caused by viral infections 43 . Whilst looking at the enrichment according to fold-changes, we found Immune system process and Localization to be the top-level gene ontology biological processes, and an enrichment for infective cystitis, which has been reported to occur in some COVID-19 patients 46 . Further enrichment analysis in TRRUST 44 indicated the top predicted biological processes for T2 versus HCs, as Multicellular organismal process and Negative regulation of biological process (adjusted p value), and an enrichment of the regulation by the tumor suppressor gene TP53.…”

“…The ICIQ-UI SF, with an intraclass correlation coefficient of 0.73 and a Cronbach's alpha of 0.87, consists of four questions and provides a score ranging from 0 to 21, where a higher score indicates more severe symptoms. This questionnaire categorizes urinary incontinence severity into four levels: slight (1-5), moderate (6)(7)(8)(9)(10)(11)(12), severe (13)(14)(15)(16)(17)(18), and very severe (19)(20)(21). On the other hand, the ICIQ-MLUTS, comprising 13 items, is designed to evaluate voiding and storage symptoms along with their impact on the patient's life.…”

“…Emerging evidence indicates that COVID-19 can affect the urinary system, with post-COVID males experiencing UI, significantly impacting their QoL [13]. The exact mechanisms linking COVID-19 to UI remain unclear, but potential factors include direct viral effects on the urinary system, COVID-19-related hospitalization, immobility, and specific medication uses [14,15].…”
