Dearomatized Isoprenylated Acylphloroglucinol Derivatives with Potential Antitumor Activities from Hypericum henryi

Abstract: A series of dearomatized isoprenylated acylphloroglucinols derivatives, hyperhenols A-E (1-5), as well as seven known analogues (6-12), were characterized from Hypericum henryi. Their structures were determined by combination of NMR, ECD spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction analysis. Compounds 1 and 6-8 were tested to exhibit potential antitumor properties, of which 6 and 7 inhibited cell growth through inducing apoptosis and cell cycle arrest. In addition, these compounds could induce autophagy and PINK1/Parki… Show more

“…It exerts antiviral effect by various mechanisms ranging from inhibiting the virus entry into cells, inhibiting encapsulation of the virus and viral protease, inhibiting the virus replication, as well as modulating several signaling pathways ( 54 ). Recent study has shown that curcumin potentially inhibits ACE2, modulates characteristics of lipid bilayer, as well as viral S protein inhibiting entry of virus into cells ( 54 , 55 ), inhibits the viral protease ( 56 ), stimulates host interferon production to activate the host innate immunity ( 55 ), etc. Furthermore, curcumin is a potent antioxidant.…”

“…The subsequent studies suggested that 1–3 shared MBC (minimal bactericidal concentration) values of 50.0, 25.0, and 100.0 μg/mL, respectively, against P. acnes . Furthermore, based on the fact that the PE extract of title species exhibited acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitory effect, [5] the AChE inhibitory effects of 1–3 were evaluated. The results ( Table 2) indicated that 2 showed potent AChE inhibitory property with an IC 50 value of 22.9 μM.…”

“…[1] Although these secondary metabolites are often isolated from fungi and marine organisms, [2] they are also reported from higher plants, such as Myrtaceae and Guttiferae families in recent years. [3][4][5][6] Phloroglucinol based meroterpenoids, isolated from species of Myrtaceae family, are a class of characteristic components generally made up of a phloroglucinol derivative and a mono/sesquiterpenoid moiety. These natural products have also attracted considerable interests from our research group.…”

“…Starting from a series of resorcylic acid lactones (RALs), several classes of natural lactones including sesquiterpene lactones (SLs), diacylglycerol lactones (DAGLs), and diterpene lactones (DLs) received much attention as potential anticancer agents over the past few decades [ 12 , 13 , 14 , 15 , 16 ]. Nevertheless, the development of those natural products into drug discovery programs is still somewhat limited due to complexity in structures and low pharmacokinetic profile resulted from relatively high lipophilic properties.…”
