“…Regular dosage with ephedrine, orciprenaline, or combinations of these with a sedative, given orally, in adequate dosage are therefore safer forms of therapy in children. Experimentally isoprenaline, orciprenaline and ephedrine seem equally likely to produce cardiac abnormalities, if used in excessive amounts, either arrhythmias (Exon 1967; Greenberg & Pines 1967) or, more commonly, acute cardiac failure with asystolic arrest (Shapiro et al 1965; Lockett 1965). Adrenalin seems least likely to produce tachycardia (Kennedy 1965) or hypotension (Gaddum 1959) and in most of the reported fatalities isoprenaline has been implicated.…”
