Decision-making approaches in process innovations: an explorative case study

Abstract: Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the selection of decision-making approaches at manufacturing companies when implementing process innovations. Design/methodology/approach This study reviews the current understanding of decision structuredness for determining a decision-making approach and conducts a case study based on an interactive research approach at a global manufacturer. Findings The findings show the correspondence of intuitive, normative and combined intuitive and normative decision-… Show more

“…This definition has the following four aspects: (1) dependence on the trustee; (2) reliability of the trusted person; (3) positive and negative utility that results in either positive or negative outcome; (4) the risk that the trusting party accepts. Trust is the willingness to put oneself in a vulnerable position in terms of the trusted person because they are regarded as dependable [33]. Trust in virtual teams relies on the belief that each member is acting upon the agreed commitment with good intentions and they are working hard on behalf of the group [15].…”

“…It will, however, provide the in-depth information needed to properly illustrate how collaboration can be performed between two manufacturing SMEs during their Industry 4.0 transformation (Yin, 2014). This methodology has been used far and wide for qualitative research in the manufacturing industry (Lavikka et al, 2015;Flores-Garcia et al, 2021). This research's objects were two enterprises in the aerospace manufacturing industry positioning themselves at the same supply chain level, specializing in manufacturing small structure and engine components.…”

“…There are several different types of digital approaches that are possible to use in a more digitalized production preparation process, such as simulation, emulation, and visualization. These emerging technologies demonstrates the possibilities to support decision-making for manufacturing companies [22], with the mission to reduce errors and improve the design of the production system layout. A simulation model is designed to support decisions, and therefore the models should mimic behaviors which contribute to important insights [23].…”
