Decline Curve Analysis Using Type Curves

Abstract: This paper demonstrates that decline curve analysis not only has a solid fundamental base but also provides a tool with more diagnostic power than has been suspected previously. The type curve approach provides unique solutions on which engineers can agree or shows when a unique solution is not possible with a type curve only. Introduction Rate-time decline curve extrapolation is one of the oldest and most often used tools of the petroleum engineer. The vario… Show more

“…On the CO 2 -EOR side, oil production rates could be represented more accurately. The rate of oil production is linked to remaining reserves by the so-called "decline curve" and rapidly decreases once the field has reached a certain maturity (Fetkovich 1980 …”

“…AAPG was the main source for information about discovery year, year of first oil production, URR and cumulative production (AAPG, 1970;1980;1992;2003;2005). Other sources such as James (2000), the UK department of Trade & Industry (DTI), IHS, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD), Arab Oil & Gas Directory have also been used in the data compilation.…”
