Decolorization and Degradation of Methyl Orange Azo Dye in Aqueous Solution by the Electro Fenton Process: Application of Optimization

Abstract: In a batch reactor, the EF advanced oxidation decolorization of aqueous solutions of methyl orange MO, a commercial azo reactive textile dye, was investigated in the presence of two different electrodes. The evaluation included various operational variables such as the IC current intensity (60 mA, 80 mA, and 100 mA), initial concentration of pollutant MO (20 mg/L, 40 mg/L, and 60 mg/L), initial pH of solution (3, 5, and 7), temperature of solution (20 °C, 30 °C, and 50 °C), and initial concentration of catalys… Show more

“…The treatment performance of Fenton and associated processes is directly affected by process temperature. The temperature has a negative influence on the efficacy of heterogeneous electro Fenton process since the concentration of dissolved O 2 is reduced and the H 2 O 2 molecules are degraded at high temperatures (Adachi et al, 2022 ; Miao et al, 2020 ). In the study of the degradation of the azo dye cationic red X-GRL by the electro-Fenton process by an activated carbon fiber cathode, the optimum temperature was 60 °C where decoloration proportionally increased by increasing temperature and obtained performance of 93.46%.…”

“…Thus, we find the products of metabolization and microbial bodies resulting from biological treatments (digestion, stabilization) [31]. The nature and concentration of organic and inorganic pollutants in wastewater depend on the activities connected to the network [33]. Most of the chemical contamination comes from industrial discharges and, to a lesser extent, from domestic discharges (use of solvents, do-it-yourself waste, detergent) [34].…”
