Decolorization of C.I. Reactive Orange 4 and Textile Effluents by Electrochemical Oxidation Technique using Silver-Carbon Composite Electrode

Abstract: In this study, the electrochemical oxidation of C. I. Reactive Orange 4 (RO4) on a silver-carbon composite (AgC-PVC) electrode was studied using the cyclic voltammetry, potential liner V, and electrolysis methods. The AgC-PVC electrode was used as the working electrode in the electrochemical measurement of RO4 in the presence of NaCl as a supporting electrolyte. The UV-Vis spectra of RO4 after the electrochemical oxidation showed the complete decolorization of the solution. The electrolysis products were chara… Show more

“…The supporting electrolyte (NaCl solution) was added in the electrochemical system to modify the electrochemical conductivity and facilitate the electrical current flow. 4,25 The presence of chloride ions from the addition of NaCl can lead to active oxidant formations, such as chlorine, hypochlorous acid, and/or hypochlorite, depending on the pH (Equations 3-5). These active oxidants are beneficial in the oxidation of organic pollutants at the anode or/and in bulk solution (Equation 6).…”

“…Although C50Ag20PVC30 composite electrode record color removal till 61% but the stability of electrode is low and the cost to fabricate the electrode was higher. As the main criteria electrode used in any electrochemical process should be stable chemically and physically [14,15]. Therefore, the selection of good composite electrode is not only based on the ability to remove the color, but chemical stability as well.…”
