ABR used to treat wastewater with high COD level such as livestock wastewater. ABR treatment consists of compartments which are limited by vertical bulkhead growth with attached bacteria. However, ABR treatment only capable degraded COD level by 50 – 53%. This value did not qualify to be discharged into the environment. Therefore, ABR treatment need further treatment with ozone treatment and aerobic activated sludge. There were two treatments in this study, which are ABR with ozone treatment and aerobic activated sludge (S1) and ABR with aerobic activated sludge (S2). COD degradation with ozone treatment showed low efficiency, 31.1 ± 1.5 % but BOD/COD level increased. Aerobic activated sludge with batch system showed efficiency of COD degradation as 95.3 ± 2.2 % (with ozone treatment) and 78.6 ± 4.5 % without ozone treatment. The final concentration effluent for livestock wastewater was 167.7 ± 62 mg/L. Aerobic activated sludge with continuous system was conducted to test that result and it average efficiency only decreased into 85%. This concentration was qualified to be discharged into environment.

The accumulation of recalcitrant azo dyes from untreated textile effluents has adversely impacted the ecosystem. The immense stability in their nature is conferred by the presence of azo bonds (N=N) in their structure. The reduction of this azo bond occurs exclusively under anaerobic conditions giving rise to colorless aromatic amines, which are carcinogenic. In the present study, a synthetic textile effluent containing mixed azo dyes such as Reactive Red, Reactive Black, and Reactive Brown, was treated using activated sludge under anaerobic conditions in a lab-scale anaerobic sequential batch reactor (An-SBR). At a concentration of 100 mg/L of mixed azo dyes, the An-SBR gave a maximum of 88% decolorization detected through UV-visible spectroscopy. Physicochemical analyses revealed 73% removal of BOD, 90% TDS removal, 69% COD removal, 4.05% TKN removal, 66% chloride removal, and 73% hardness removal. When the concentration of dyes was increased to 500 mg/L, the treatment showed a decrease in decolorization efficiency. This was then compared to a sequential anaerobic-aerobic treatment process performed in An-SBR and a laboratory-scale aerobic moving bed biofilm reactor (MBBR). The study revealed that the sequential process held more potential for commercial application than exclusively an anaerobic process. The metabolites formed during the treatment phase were extracted and analyzed by FT-IR and HPLC and identified through GC-MS analyses and were compared to those found in the untreated effluent. A phytotoxicity test was conducted on the remainder (secondary) sludge using Vigna unguiculata, and it was found to show a 50% reduction in germination and retardation in root and shoot length.

The home-scale coloring industry is currently starting to develop with various models and effects which result in the production of various phases of solid, liquid, and gas emissions. The purpose of this study is to measure the environmental impact and ensure that life management minimizes the impact of recycling industrialdye . This research was conducted by direct industry observation methods and a literature review on the management of industrial waste. Environmental impact calculations were completed carried out using the 2018 Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) method on SimaPro 9.1.1 with an ecoinvent 3 database. The results of the environmental impact assessment should be managed according to the effects of water scarcity, acidification, and eutrophication. Pollution prevention can occur by treating industrial wastewater dye . Wastewater treatment can be performed by biological processes based on the biodegradability index. The biodegradability index of 0.3 indicates that wastewater can be treated by the activated sludge process and by moving the bed biofilm reactor (MBBR).
