Decrease Recurrence Rate of Condylomata Acuminata by Photodynamic Therapy Combined with CO2 Laser in Mainland China: A Meta-Analysis

Abstract: Background: Condylomata acuminata (CA) are caused by human papillomavirus. Most conventional therapies for CA have high recurrence rate. Objectives: To compare the recurrence rate of 5-aminolaevulinic acid photodynamic therapy (ALA-PDT) combined with CO2 laser and CO2 laser alone for CA treatment in mainland China. Methods: In this meta-analysis, 2,048 cases of CA from 22 articles were divided into two groups. The treatment group was treated by using ALA-PDT combined with CO2 l… Show more

“…At present, photodynamic therapy (PDT) of CA and superficial non‐melanocytic skin tumors has been widely applied. It has characteristics of precise targeting, small damage, no drug resistance, non‐toxic side effects, and low recurrence rate . However, pain throughout the course of treatment reduces patients’ compliance, affects its efficacy and limits its application.…”

“…Genital warts are one of the sexually transmitted diseases caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) (Grennan, 2019). There was a high recurrence rate in patients with genital warts after various therapies (Zhu et al, 2012;Grennan, 2019). Recently, 5-aminolaevulinic acidmediated photodynamic therapy (ALA-PDT) exhibited promising efficacy in decreasing the recurrence rate (Zhu et al, 2012).…”

“…Faced with such refractory genital warts, the patient agreed to try 0.5% POD-NLC, a kind of solution, created by our team (Gao et al, 2018). After signing the consent form, it was applied on the lesion ALA-PDT has been widely used for its advantage of low recurrence rate (Zhu et al, 2012). Dynamic monitoring of HPV genotypes and viral loads is helpful to guide PDT treatment and indicates the efficacy in eliminating HPV .…”
