Decreased expression of claudin-18.2 in alpha-fetoprotein-producing gastric cancer compared to conventional gastric cancer

Abstract: Background: Alpha-fetoprotein-producing gastric cancer (AFPGC) is a subtype of gastric cancer (GC) with more aggressive biological behavior. As a highly specific tight junction component exclusively present in gastric mucosa and gastric adenocarcinomas, claudin-18.2 (CLDN18.2) has become an emerging target in GC. In this study, we aimed to provide insight into AFPGC and investigate the expression and the clinical implications of CLDN18.2 in AFPGC.Methods: We retrospectively collected 98 cases of AFPGC and revi… Show more

“…The studies examined in this analysis were published within the timeframe of 2019 to 2023. The majority of the studies (8/14) were conducted in China [14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21] , with the other studies distributed among Japan [22,23] (2/14), Korea [24] (1/14), America [25] (1/14), Germany [26] (1/14) and Turkey [27] (1/14). The majority of research [14][15][16][17][18][19][20][22][23][24][25][26]28] (13/14) utilized a scoring system that integrated the staining intensity and percentage of CLDN18.2 expression.…”

Additionally, four studies [17,18,24,26] devised their own H-scores by considering both of these criteria, whereas one study [27] just focused on the intensity of CLDN18.2 expression.…”
