Dedicated functional simulator: an approach to ASIC design

Abstract

The paper discusses the drawbacks in the conventional method of specifying an ASIC.A procedure in which a dedicated functional simulator form an active tool for laying down the preliminar y, evolutionary and final specification of the ASIC is described. The role of the dedicated functional simulator in the subsequent ASIC design activities and its possible role in the system mdelling is also indicated.
