“…Immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) has been associated with several vaccinations, including measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), hepatitis A, varicella, diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (DPT), oral polio and influenza ( Perricone et al, 2014 ). While there is broad awareness that the adenovirus DNA-based vaccines can cause vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia (VITT) ( Kelton et al, 2021 ), the mRNA vaccines are not without risk to VITT, as case studies have been published documenting such occurrences, including life threatening and fatal cerebral venous sinus thrombosis ( Lee et al, 2021 ; Akiyama et al, 2021 ; Atoui et al, 2022 ; Zakaria et al, 2021 ). The mechanism is believed to involve VITT antibodies binding to platelet factor 4 (PF4) and forming immune complexes that induce platelet activation.…”

“…We previously discussed a study revealing that there was no increase in the incidence of PE in people aged 75 years old and older 14 days after each BNT162b2 vaccination, but there exist some rare reports regarding PE [ 87 , 92 ]. A recent post-vaccination venous thromboembolism and PE report presents a 24-year-old boy, and the authors discuss his thrombophilia screening, which showed an FVL G169A heterozygous mutation and MTHFR A1298C homozygous mutation, trying to explain the event through the inherited thrombophilia [ 93 ]. The authors conclude that patients with a history of unprovoked DVT or PE who have not been tested for genetic risk should be offered testing before vaccination, as there is presently insufficient evidence to warrant their exemption from vaccination or the use of anticoagulant prophylaxis [ 93 ].…”

“…In addition to the more common venous thromboses in the lower extremities, vaccine-related clotting occurs in atypical locations like cerebral sinuses and intestinal veins [246][247][248][249][250][251]. (Figure 1) Venous thrombosis, in turn, leads to a higher incidence of pulmonary embolism [252]. (Figure 2) Such events prompted the temporary withdrawal of the J & J vaccine in Europe and the US.…”
