Defeasible Reasoning in Web-Based Forms Through Argumentation

Abstract: The notion of forms as a way of organizing and presenting data has been used since the beginning of the World Wide Web. Web-based forms have evolved together with the development of new markup languages, in which it is possible to provide validation scripts as part of the form code to test whether the intended meaning of the form is correct. However, for the form designer, part of this intended meaning frequently involves other features which are not constraints by themselves, but rather attributes emerging fr… Show more

“…Nowadays, several architectures designed for executing DLPs are based on abstract machines. [11][12][13][14] A Defeasible logic program (delp program) is a set of facts, strict rules ∆ of the form (A:-B) , and a set of defeasible rules ∆ of the form A-<B, whose intended meaning is "if B is the case, then usually A is also the case". A Category mapping delp program includes facts which are formed from likes, and strict and defeasible clauses where the heads and bodies corresponds to the sets Category1 and Category2.…”

“…DeLP has proven to be an efficient tool for achieving this integration, as exemplified in Ref. [12] Other successful applications of DeLP involve news analysis, [14] intelligent processing of web-based forms, [13] and intelligent robotic soccer, [25] among many others.…”

“…Defeasible logic programming (DeLP) (García & Simari, 2004) is one of such formalisms, combining results from defeasible argumentation theory (Simari & Loui, 1992) and logic programming (Lloyd, 1987). DeLP is a suitable framework for building real-world applications which has proven to be particularly attractive in that context, such as clustering (Gómez & Chesñevar, 2004), intelligent web search (Chesñevar & Maguitman, 2004b;Chesñevar, Maguitman, & Simari, in press), knowledge management (Chesñevar, Brena, & Aguirre, 2005a, 2005b, multiagent systems (Brena, Chesñevar, & Aguirre, 2006), and natural language processing (Chesñevar & Maguitman, 2004a), intelligent web forms (Gómez, Chesñevar, & Simari, 2008), among others.…”

“…It is intended to allow a single agent to reason internally with inconsistent and incomplete knowledge that may change dynamically over time and has been shown to be applicable in different real-world contexts (e.g. [14,26]). It provides a warrant procedure, which we will present in Sect.…”
