The topic of leadership enjoys unflagging interest among management theorists and practitioners. One of the trends that arose in the 1990s is spiritual leadership. Some authors have pointed out the importance of spiritual leadership is to create a sustainable workplace for employees. Thus, there is a need to present the achievements of academic knowledge in this topic. The aim of the paper is to synthesize research in the emerging spiritual leadership theory and its importance for the creation of a sustainable workplace. This study explores the concept of spiritual leadership and proposes a conceptual model of spiritual leadership within the context of the sustainability of the workplace. The study is based on a literature review and bibliometric analysis of 373 publications from the Scopus database, spanning the period from 1980 to 2019. The findings obtained indicate that the development of the spiritual leadership theory is relevant and applicable to the creation and maintenance of a sustainable workplace for employees.

Sustainability, TQM and Value Co-Creation Processes: The Role of Critical Success Factors

Sustainability views firm success and the welfare-wellbeing of societies in which they develop as closely inter-related. Value co-creation assumes that firms create value not only for themselves, but also for all actors willing to participate in co-creation processes, as well as for the whole ecosystem in which they operate. Thus, co-creation can sustain social development and sustainability. However, to ensure sustainability through value co-creation processes, TQM principles must be followed and Critical Success Factors (CSFs) reinterpreted following this perspective. In this important, but understudied context, the aim of the paper is to focus on value co-creation processes fostering sustainability, identifying which CSFs are most suitable to best support each phase of these processes. The paper is based on a review of the literature and bridges sustainability, value co-creation, TQM, EM and IMS literature for the first time, proposing a new model of value co-creation processes, which considers it a never ending cycle. The proposed model presents and discusses, for the first time, the most important CSFs to foster sustainability and opens the discussion on how to re-interpret quality principles, which must also be followed in value co-creation processes.

As the competitive landscape of today's retail business environment continues to change, and particularly with advancements in technology, both consumers and shareholders have increased access to information on the companies with which they choose to do business. With this additional information, many consumers and shareholders are now placing added importance on "Corporate Sustainability" when making their purchase or investment decisions. Fortunately, many companies have already embraced the concept, or are at least starting the journey of incorporating sustainability practices as a core part of their business operations and/or supply chain strategy. Only time will tell what the future business environment will look like, but it is becoming increasingly apparent that a focus on sustainability will continue to grow and contribute to future business success. This paper discusses the origins of sustainability, the standards, the importance of adopting sustainability practices, and challenges observed from the COVID-19 pandemic.
