Abstract: ‘Candidatus Phytoplasma’ genus, a group of fastidious phloem-restricted bacteria, can infect a wide variety of both ornamental and agro-economically important plants. Phytoplasmas secrete effector proteins responsible for the symptoms associated with the disease.
