Defluviimonas aestuarii sp. nov., a marine bacterium isolated from a tidal flat, and emended description of the genus Defluviimonas Foesel et al. 2011

Abstract: A novel Gram-staining-negative, strictly aerobic bacterium, designated BS14T, was isolated from a marine tidal flat of the South Sea in Korea. Colonies were opaque, white, smooth and circular on marine agar. Cells were moderately halophilic, non-motile rods showing catalase- and oxidase-positive reactions. Growth of strain BS14T was observed at 5–40 °C (optimum: 30 °C), pH 6.5–9.5 (optimum: 7.0–7.5) and 0–10 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum: 1–1.5 %). The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 61.6 mol%. Strain BS14T contain… Show more

“…Just recently, two species of this genus (Defluviimonas indica [3] and Defluviimonas pyrenivorans [4]) have been transferred to the genus Acidimangrovimonas as Acidimangrovimonas indica and Acidimangrovimonas pyrenivorans [5]. Therefore, at the time of writing, the genus Defluviimonas comprises five species with validly published names, Defluviimonas denitrificans [1], Defluviimonas aestuarii [6], Defluviimonas aquaemixtae [7], Defluviimonas alba [8] and Defluviimonas nitratireducens [9]. Another genus Frigidibacter was introduced by Li and Zhou in 2015 to accommodate only the species Frigidibacter albus [10].…”

“…The genus Defluviimonas , belonging to the family Rhodobacteraceae , was first described by Foesel et al . (2011) and, at the time of writing, comprises four recognized species, Defluviimonas denitrificans (Foesel et al ., 2011) isolated from the biofilter of a marine aquaculture system, Defluviimonas aestuarii (Math et al , 2013) isolated from a tidal flat of the South Sea in Korea, Defluviimonas indica (Jiang et al , 2014) isolated from a deep-sea hydrothermal vent chimney collected from the South-west Indian Ridge and Defluviimonas aquaemixtae (Jung et al , 2014) isolated from the junction between a freshwater spring and the ocean. Typically, cells of members of this genus are Gram-negative, moderately halophilic, catalase- and oxidase-positive rods, with the major fatty acids being summed feature 8 (C 18 : 1 ω7 c /C 18 : 1 ω6 c ), and the respiratory quinone being Q-10.…”
