Deformation and Failure Characteristics of Bimaterial Samples Consisting of Sandstone and Cemented Coal Gangue–Fly Ash Backfill under Uniaxial Loading

Abstract: Based on the acoustic emission (AE) system and the digital scattered-spot deformation monitoring system, uniaxial compression tests were conducted on composite samples consisting of sandstone and cemented coal gangue–fly ash backfill (CGFB) to investigate their deformation and failure characteristics. The results showed that the average uniaxial compressive strength of the composite samples was 83.09% higher than that of the pure CGFB samples and 92.28% lower than that of the pure sandstone samples. In the com… Show more

“…This results in a large number of coal-mining subsidence areas [ [6] , [7] , [8] , [9] ]. The tensile property of rocks is a key factor that affects the stability of coal and rock mass [ [10] , [11] , [12] , [13] ]. Therefore, the tensile properties of rocks under the coupling of water and gases should be studied to determine the stability of coal and rock mass in closed high-gas mines.…”

“…Yu et al 27 conducted triaxial compression tests on laboratory specimens containing rock and backfill to understand the effect of the rock/backfill volume fraction and perimeter pressure on strength and fracturing in rock backfill systems. Li et al 28 conducted uniaxial compression tests on composite samples consisting of sandstone and cemented gangue-fly ash backfill (CGFB) to investigate their deformation and damage characteristics. Tan et al 29 designed a composite structure made of cement tailings backfill (CTB) and rock core (RC) and investigated its mechanical properties, damage process, damage characteristics and microstructural features.…”
