Deformation and transformation mechanisms of poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVF2)

Abstract: The deformation process and the accompanying ~ -~ /~ phase transformation of poly(vinylidene fluoride), drawn at 82 to 90 and 130 ~ has been characterized by electron microscopy and X-ray and electron diffraction. Micronecking occurs at both draw temperatures, fibrils and mosaic blocks being drawn off the edges of the micronecks. The degree of phase transformation, at the same elongation, is dependent on the draw temperature; at 130 ~ C the majority of the sample remains in the c~ phase at the natural draw rat… Show more

“…In other segments that were stretched below the critical stress, the original structure remained intact, and therefore, in addition to the well-oriented b-phase crystals, unoriented a-phase crystals were also found in the neck region. 14,21 The neck region developed to the end of samples at an extension larger than 200%. Figure 4 shows that the b-phase content increased significantly right after the neck had fully developed.…”

“…This has attracted the attention of researchers for many years and a large number of experimental and theoretical studies on PVDF, including its crystal phases, have been made [6][7][8][9][10][11]. PVDF forms at least four crystalline phases, including the α-and β-phases.…”
