Tension stiffening is an essential effect that influences the behaviour of concrete structures under serviceability conditions, mainly regarding crack control and deflection behaviour.Serviceability conditions can be studied experimentally by running the so-called uniaxial tensile test. This paper reports an extensive experimental research conducted to study the tensile behaviour of reinforced Ultra-High Performance Fibre-Reinforced Concrete (R-UHPFRC) under service conditions by uniaxial tensile testing. The parameters studied were the reinforcement ratio and the steel fibre content in a experimental programme including 36 specimens. Special testing equipment and methodology to measure the post-cracking deformation of R-UHPFRC ties were developed, and special attention was paid to the shrinkage effect. The tensile elements' axial stiffness was approximately parallel to the bare bar response after microcracking formation showing a full tension-stiffening response. The average tensile capacity of the reinforced elements (tension stiffening response) was achieved.Concrete's contribution in the R-UHPFRC ties with the tensile properties deriving from fourpoint bending tests (4PBTs) on non-reinforced UHPFRC specimens was also compared. The experimental results revealed a slight increase in concrete's contribution with the higher reinforcement ratio. Moreover, the concrete's contribution in the tensile elements was higher than the characteristic tensile properties deriving from 4PBTs.

This paper studied the influence of fiber volume fraction ( V f ), fiber orientation, and type of reinforcement bar (rebar) on the uniaxial tensile behavior of rebar-reinforced strain-hardening ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC). It was observed that the tensile strength increased with the increase in V f . When V f was kept constant at 1%, rebar-reinforced UHPC with fibers aligned with the load direction registered the highest strength and that with fibers oriented perpendicular to the load direction recorded the lowest strength. The strength of the composite with random fibers laid in between. Moreover, the strength, as well as the ductility, increased when the normal strength grade 60 rebars embedded in UHPC were replaced with high strength grade 100 rebars with all other conditions remaining unchanged. In addition, this paper discusses the potential of sudden failure of rebar-reinforced strain hardening UHPC and it is suggested that the composite attains a minimum strain of 1% at the peak stress to enable the members to have sufficient ductility.

In den vergangenen Jahren wurden verschiedene auf die Bemessung von Stahl‐ und Spannbetonbauteilen ausgerichtete theoretische Modelle entwickelt. Heute stehen das Zuggurtmodell, das Modell der gerissenen (Steg‐)Scheibe und das Druckgurtmodell zur Verfügung, auf deren Grundlage Verformungsverhalten und Tragwiderstände umfassend beurteilt werden können. Auf das Druckgurtmodell wird im vorliegenden Beitrag detailliert eingegangen. Es berücksichtigt die Festigkeits‐ und Duktilitätssteigerung durch eine Umschnürungsbewehrung sowie die bruchmechanisch begründete Entfestigung des Betons und die damit einhergehende Verformungslokalisierung. Auf der Grundlage neuerer Versuchsergebnisse können für die komplexen Interdependenzen zwischen diesen Effekten plausible Beziehungen angegeben werden. Die mithilfe des Druckgurtmodells gewonnenen Erkenntnisse sind für die Baupraxis von Bedeutung: Das Verhalten von auf Druck beanspruchten Bauteilen (z. B. Druckplatten von Brückenquerschnitten, Stützen) lässt sich zuverlässig erfassen; darüber hinaus ergeben sich wichtige Hinweise für die konstruktive Durchbildung. Compression Chord Model for Structural Concrete In recent years, several theoretical models have been developed with the scope on the design of reinforced and prestressed concrete structures. Today, the tension chord model, the cracked membrane model and the compression chord model are available, with which the deformation behaviour as well as ultimate loads can be determined. In the present contribution the compression chord model is discussed in detail. The model takes the increase of strength and ductility due to a confining reinforcement into account and considers the softening as well as the localisation of deformations accompanying the fracture of concrete. On the basis of new test results plausible relations for the complex interdependencies between these effects are found. The results of the compression chord model are relevant for practical applications: The behaviour of compressed members (e.g. in bridge girders or columns) can be assessed reliably; moreover, hints for the detailing of reinforcement can be deduced.
