Degradation of bisphenol A by the UV and UV/H2O2 processes: Evaluation of process variables through experimental design

Abstract: UV‐based technologies have been proposed for the treatment of wastewater containing bisphenol A (BPA), a toxic, endocrine‐disruptor pollutant. Nevertheless, the evaluation of the role of process variables through experimental design has not been previously addressed. In this study, the effects of BPA and H2O2 initial concentrations, and specific photon emission rate (EP,0) on BPA degradation by the UV and UV/H2O2 processes were investigated, using the Doehlert design and response surface analysis. The experime… Show more

“…43 In this study, the UV irradiation fraction absorbed by NO 3 − was determined by eqn (15):where f NO 3 − represents the UV irradiation fraction of NO 3 − absorption and ε BPA and ε NO 3 − represent the molar extinction coefficients of BPA ( ε BPA = 750 M −1 cm −1 ) and NO 3 − ( ε NO 3 − = 3.51 M −1 cm −1 ) at the wavelength of 254 nm, respectively. 44,45 The NO 3 − concentration and initial BPA concentration are expressed by [NO 3 − ] and [BPA], respectively. According to the calculations, f NO 3 − decreased sharply as [BPA] increased, i.e.…”
